CHAROITE
The only supply of this lovely stone was found near the Charo river in Siberia in 1976. Charoite is a composite stone with varying quantities of several minerals.
Basically being a hydrous silicate of Sodium, Calcium, and Potassium, the black sprays being Aegirine-augite,the orange when present is tinaksite, the clear parts are a microcline felspar.

LABRADORITE
Labradorite is a beautiful stone and has to be one of my favorites. Sourced from Tabor Island in Newfoundland, the best of the Labradorite in my stock comes from material collected in the 1950's by hand.
In later years, miners began using explosives, causing more fracturing. By its very nature Labradorite is prone to fractures anyway.

MADAGASCAN LABRADORITE
This Labradorite is from Madagascar and is sometimes called Andesine. Labradorite and andesine are very closely related Plagioclase Felspars anyway so the difference may be a mute point. They are certainly different stones to carve.

AMETRINE
From the Anahi mine in Bolivia (the world source) comes this fascinating gem. If Amethyst is heated enough it will turn into Citrine (which is how most of the world's Citrine is produced).
So how does nature produce the same colours side by side in the same gemstone???
The photo on the right met my oily fingers, it does have a polish on it ...really.
